There's not much value to add when you run a blog

There's not much value to add when you run a blog with 300 followers that surreptitiously takes pictures of dunnies and then makes stupid and often totally unrelated jokes, but anyway: this project started upon two realisations.
The first was that Victoria (and Australia) is absolutely chockas with public toilets. The second was that almost all of these dunnies were unique. In a very physical way, they are expressions of the local community. They're designed with local history in mind, or covered in a mural painted by schoolkids, or the site of the town noticeboard, or located next to a war memorial, playground, public garden, or sculpture. There's always something interesting to write about.
Over the past couple of years we've been lucky enough to visit hundreds of these proud towns and communities. It is devastating to now see many of these gutted by bushfire, including #cannriver, #genoavictoria, #bonang, #corryong, #towong, and #bruthen. We could not take the same photos now.
In reflecting on our travels, these fires, and people’s responses to them, it's hard to escape the conclusion that Australia's strength lies locally. We are a great country in spite of, not because of, our national leadership. This may be a trite conclusion, but that doesn't affect its truth, or the need to change it.
This country and these towns deserve better. Have a think about ways to turn honest local spirit into wider action, and when all’s safe and open again, join me in making sure there’s not a country sausage roll, vanilla slice, or handle glass left unconsumed between Melbourne and Brisbane.
